GENESIS 1: 14-19 “And God said, Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth. And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.”
Have you ever been camping and suddenly you look up at the dark sky and see hundreds and hundreds of twinkling stars? Isn’t it incredible to see so many of them all at once? The sky actually looks like an open cave filled with diamonds!
Did you know that you can only see about 2,000 stars on a very dark night? Our eyes can’t see more than that – we would need a telescope to peek through and check thousands of them shining bright.
But that’s not all, there are about 200-400 billions stars in our milky way Galaxy. That means that there’s more than 100, more than 1000, more than 10,000, more than 1 million, more than 3 million, more than 10 million stars! There are so many that you can’t count them! Wow.
In the verse we read it says that God “made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night.
Do you know what the greater light could mean?
Yes correct! The sun! God created the sun to give us warmth when it’s cold. He created it that when mums wash your clothes and hang them on the washing line, they could dry with the heat and brightness of the sun. He also created it so that we had beautiful summer days and we could go swimming in the warm waters of the ocean, lake or river. He also created it so that in a cold winters days we could get some warmth from the shinning rays. God thought of everything. But he also created the lesser light to govern the night? DO you know what that is? Yes that’s right! The Moon!
God created the moon so that it could shine during the dark nights. If the moon light is shining we can see the dark path we are walking on. God thought of everything for us! He is an awesome God!
