One day, in the village of Gilgal, a great famine swept across the land, leaving its people hungry and weary. But amidst the hardship, a beacon of hope shone brightly in the form of Elisha, a wise and compassionate man of God.

One day, during the famine’s darkest hour, Elisha gathered with the Guild of Prophets for a meal. The air was heavy with hunger, but their spirits remained steadfast as they sat together, seeking solace in each other’s company.

With a heart full of compassion, Elisha turned to his attendant and instructed, “Put a large pot on the fire and boil some stew for the Guild of Prophets.”

Without hesitation, the attendant set to work, kindling the flames and preparing the stew.

As the aroma of the stew filled the air, one of the prophets ventured into the fields in search of herbs to flavour the meal. In his quest, he stumbled upon a wild vine, its branches heavy with ripe gourds. With excitement, he gathered a lap full of the wild gourds and hurried back to the pot.

He sliced up the gourds and added them to the stew, eager to enhance its flavour. But little did he know that the gourds were poisonous, a danger lurking in their midst.

The pot of stew bubbled and boiled until the room filled with a scrumptious scent. The prophets looked at each other and grinned – they could not wait to eat their feast.

“It’s ready!” The cook called out as he hit a wooden spoon on the table to get everyone’s attention.

As the prophets eagerly gathered around the pot, their stomachs growling with anticipation, one of them took a hesitant bite. “This stew tastes… strange,” he remarked, furrowing his brow in confusion.

Another prophet, noticing the unusual taste, took a closer look at his bowl. “What did you put in this stew?” he asked, his voice tinged with concern.

But before anyone could answer, another prophet cried out in alarm, “That pot of stew is deadly!” They pushed their bowls away in fear, their faces pale with shock.

“Elisha, there’s death in this pot!” Another young man cried. His hands shaking.

But Elisha remained calm, his faith unwavering. “Bring me some flour,” he instructed, his voice steady and reassuring.

Without hesitation a young man ran to the back to grab a bag of flour.

“Here.” He puffed as he handed over the bag.

Elisha closed his eyes briefly then tossed flour into the pot, his actions guided by God.

Everyone held their breath wondering what would happen next.

Elisha looked up and smiled. “Serve everyone the soup so they can eat,” he declared with confidence.

The prophets cautiously took another spoonful of stew, a miraculous transformation took place before their eyes.

“This tastes delicious!” One grinned.

“The bitter taste has disappeared!” another cried.

The poison was neutralised, replaced by nourishing sustenance fit for hungry souls.

With grateful hearts, the prophets shared in the meal, their faith renewed and their spirits lifted by the miraculous power of God’s grace. And as they ate, they marvelled at the goodness of the Lord, who had turned their famine feast into a banquet of abundance.
